Get it wrong and it may even hinder your prospects of getting into your choice of course, get it right and you have one foot in the door. There is much debate on just how to compose the perfect personal statement ââ¬â one that sets you head and shoulders above the competition. The simple fact is that as long as you're honest, eloquent and confident in the manner in which you portray yourself then you stand a good chance in creating a positive impression. There are, however, three killer mistakes that many students make ââ¬â yet are easily avoided. For those that wish to write the personal statement, and avoid these mistakes have a read below. Basic Errors There is no excuse for making careless mistakes in your personal statement. From syntax to punctuation, choice of words and, perhaps most importantly, spelling these mistakes should be avoided. Invest some time planning, writing and checking your personal statement prior to submitting it. Personal statements submitted with a wealth of errors are likely to be tossed aside ââ¬â and your chances of attending the course aside with it. Don't Be Cute Students try to be cute or gimmicky in the manner that they portray themselves. This is a mistake. The common misconception is that students try to write a personal statement with originality, hoping that it will stand out from the crowd. The simple fact is that no matter how original you feel that your personal statement is the odds are that it's been done before. The audience's attention will be caught just not for positive reasons. Stick to the facts and concentrate in portraying yourself in a positive manner. Poor Choice of Words The choice of words the final common mistake made by students whilst writing their personal statement. The use of superfluous adjectives or long winded explanations of simple facts will not endear you towards the audience. Adding irrelevant details muddies the point that your trying to make, and may give the impression that you're not being entirely truthful. Remember that anyone can use a thesaurus, and that honesty is always the best policy. You don't want to write an egregious personal statement, sorry a personal statement of poor quality. Relective Paper on Counselling in Social Work essays
Relective Paper on Counselling in Social Work essays Social work values call for everyone, regardless of their beliefs, practices, or backgrounds, to be treated with dignity, given equal access to societal institutions, opportunities and resources, and supported in contributing their unique talents to their families, communities and country. (Sevel, Cummins, and Madrigal, 1999, pg. 11) I agree with this statement whole heatedly because I have always believed that all people are unique and should be treated with dignity and respect. I had a difficult time identifying what would be Shiela's value issues, and after much thought cannot identify any. My values are to treat client with respect and dignity regardless of my personal feelings. Sheila was an easy client to work with and there were no value conflicts for me. However I know there will be issues for me in the future that will challenge me and my values and I will need to be always on the lookout for why I may have difficulty working with someone. It will probably be because of a value conflict. -need for a computer for school was the issue she identified as being important for -frustration with family, friends, problem with conflict and being able to establish needs are what I identified as issues for Sheila even though she did not come to the interview with these being something she needed to explore. Prepatory empathy involves trying to imagine, on the basis of what limited information you posses, what the client may be thinking, feeling, and doing. (Cournoyer, 1991, pg. 95) I thought about what issue would be presented to me by Sheila at our interview and worried that I would not know what to respond, or that I would not be a helping person for her. I imagined how she must have been feeling about this exercise, as I myself was nervous about talking to her about my own issue. The contracting process follows integrally from the assessment and yields clearly identified problems, specific goals f...

Improving Math Skills Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 5000 words
Improving Math Skills - Research Paper Example At their grade level, they are expected to memorize basic math facts. However, it seems they cannot recall such basic information and have to rely on finger counting or touch math. In order to help them, I had to research on available strategies to implement on them during extra sessions outside class hours so their academic daily routine will not be disrupted. This action research paper attempts to help students with learning disabilities in math using the program, Mastering Math Facts (Otter Creek Institute, 2003), a math drill program aimed at improving recall of basic math operational facts. To state the problem simply, This study was conducted with five students from three different fourth grade classrooms who each have been diagnosed with learning disabilities in Math. Due to time constraints since the study was done towards the end of the schoolyear, and the studentsââ¬â¢ difficulty to move on to the next levels because of their learning disability, the expected completion of the program was not met. Also, all of the data was collected in the resource classroom when the students were pulled out of their regular classes. Implementing this program in the regular classroom by the classroom teacher to all students might improve reliability. Although the first trials have been promising, leading one to accept that the program, Mastering Math Facts, is an effective strategy to improve math skills in basic math operations, results are not generalizable to the population of students with learning disabilities. This action research study is an ambitious attempt to help students in need. Having learning disabilities in math is an impediment for students who need to go through the tedious and progressive math program throughout their school lives. For regular students, math concepts can only go more complicated as they master basic concepts and skills. How much more for students with learning

Law Enforcement Challenges Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
Law Enforcement Challenges - Research Paper Example The country has three main broad categories of the law which include; civil law, criminal law and regulatory law. Therefore, there are no specific statutes that deal with the crimes that are perpetrated by cyber criminals. The government should collaborate with stakeholders in the information technology industry to come up with laws that will curb the harassment and obscenity involved in cyber stalking, bullying and exploitation. The law enforcement would be able to categorize the different cyber crimes (Brenner, 2010). Law enforcement agencies should also recruit individuals in the information technology sector to guide them in coming up with hackers and other cyber criminals out to exploit innocent people. States should have the ability to work with one another when a cyber crime is carried out across state lines. The law enforcement agencies in the different states should share the knowledge that they hold so that they put an end to the crimes that are committed by these criminals. Some of the most disturbing crimes that are carried out through the internet involve young innocent children by pedophiles (Reyes, 2007). States throughout the country should distribute any information that they might have concerning cyber crimes to ensure that no harm is done on innocent

The Impact Of Intellectual Properties Protection Essay Example for Free
The Impact Of Intellectual Properties Protection Essay Some of the aims and objectives of the project include: Determine the responsibility and functioning of the intellectual property domain in the IT and automobile industry. The manner in which each type of Intellectual property (IP) instrument could be applied in the software and automobile industry. The extent and level of protection various other intellectual property rights instruments (such as copyrights, database protection, IC protection, trade secrets, designs, trademarks, etc) that could be provided. The obstacles, hurdles, ideas, conceptions, etc, that could oppose the implementation of the various intellectual property instruments for protection in the software and automobile fields. The impact and scope patents and other intellectual property right instruments could have in the IT and automobile industry. Determining the ways in which IP could act as a hindrance to the development of the software and the automobile fields To promote an inter-professional relationship that could exist between IP, management, technology and law. To equip the stakeholders in the technological field about the way they could protect their applications or intelligence of their mind. To suggest potential ways in which the hindrance and monotony caused by IP could be removed in the software and the automobile industry. To promote healthy competition between organizations in the field of technology such that it would be a win-win situation for them and for the public. The application of antitrust laws in the field of IP especially for patent nonuse To determine the circumstances under which Procedures used to benefit the public (such as revocation of the patent and compulsory licensing) can be imposed (especially to ensure that a healthy competition exists in the market). Technology is improving each and every day.à It is very important that IP is protected completely so that the owner reaps the fruits of the intellectual labor.à Each intellectual property instrument (such as patent, copyright, trade secrets, designs, trademarks, database protection, chip protection, etc) tries to protect certain aspects of technology.à For example patents try to protect the revolutionary aspect (such as inventions), whereas Semi-conductor protections tries to protect evolutionary aspects (as the development in semi-conductor technology is incremental in nature).à To a certain extent the trademark and copyright laws flow automatically and several other IP instruments have to compulsorily be registered.à à However, copyrights may not offer complete protection (it may also be difficult to apply copyrights to the field of software or the internet as websites and software is constantly updated).à A certain amount of trade secret is lost whenever an emp loyee quits a company. A companyââ¬â¢s intellectual property forms a very important resource.à However, the company should be able to determine the nature of its resources and the manner in which it could be exploited.à A company with a good IP strategy could gain a competitive edge in the industry to a certain extent and within varying periods of time (depending on its competitiveness). It can be seen that a company having a single patent would have a distinct advantage in the market.à The opponents of the company may begin to take up alternative strategies that may be ineffective in nature, consume a lot of time or prove to be very costly.à A company should conduct a SWOT analysis of its IP situation.à Even small corporate are beginning to identify IP as an invaluable assets and are using it to enable growth.à The key to success of a company would be to manage it IP resources effectively (through proper identification, maintenance, evaluation, protection, sharing and utilization). In such a competitive age, could the IT and the automobile industry ignore IP and related laws?à I do feel that this could be a very good research question, and each and every aspect including past cases, benefits and limitations of each IP instrument and the manner in which a company could develop an effective IP strategy may be discussed.à Even the potential ways in which the IP owner could misuse his/her laws could be suggested, so that unhealthy competition or monotony is created in the market.à In such circumstances, the law-makers need to bring about certain laws that would create a balance between public interest and the owner of the IP. A company can possess various IPââ¬â¢s and in different fields.à The IP may be a technology which is new and revolutionary or a slight modification of evolution of current technology.à Some of the IPââ¬â¢s that a company could possess include patents, copyrights, database protection, designs protection, trademarks, IC protection, trade secrets, etc.à A company can protect itââ¬â¢s IP in several ways:- Use the trade-secret mechanism to protect its IP (in this way the company would just be protecting its property and not be using it to gain extensive profits). Disclose its IP to the appropriate statutory authorities and obtain relevant IP registrations. Protect itââ¬â¢s IP through contractual means (e.g. licensing of a software) ââ¬â The contract for use may be for a certain periods of time or may be restricted for use within a certain geographical area.
